Senator Holly Schepisi (R-39) joined Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali and Attorney Mike Collins of King, Moench & Collins LLP for a town hall discussion Monday evening about state-mandated housing and its impact on the region.
Schepisi represents parts of Bergen County, which is home to some of the most densely populated communities in New Jersey, the most densely populated state in the nation.
“While we all want to ensure that the Garden State has enough housing for those in need, commonsense reforms are needed to preserve our quality of life and to improve affordability,” said Schepisi. “I was proud to participate in this panel discussion in Montvale and I will continue to fight for bipartisan solutions on behalf of my constituents to responsibly address legitimate affordable housing needs in our community.” |

Due to the State’s fair share housing mandates, northern New Jersey has faced significant overdevelopment and continues to receive some of the highest state-mandated housing obligations from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
“Municipalities are rightfully concerned about the fourth round of housing obligations being fast-tracked by the Governor,” said Schepisi. “The numbers released by the DCA last month proved to be unrealistic and unaffordable by creating harmfully high densities that cannot be supported by our municipalities.”
Schepisi serves on the Senate Community & Urban Affairs Committee and has been sounding the alarm on the broken affordable housing system for years.
