Scutari, Coughlin, Wimberly, Singleton, Greenstein & Pintor-Marin on NJ State Police Traffic Stop Report Released by Attorney General

(TRENTON) – Senate President Scutari, Speaker Coughlin, Speaker Pro Tempore Benjie Wimberly, Senate Majority Whip Troy Singleton, Senator Linda Greenstein, and Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor-Marin issued the following joint statement on the independent analysis of traffic stops made by the New Jersey State Police, which was released by Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin earlier this week:

“The report recently released by Attorney General Platkin is another step in fairly and effectively policing our state. We applaud the transparency of the State Police in proactively releasing this data.

“The work that has already been accomplished through legislative initiatives by bringing State Police leadership and community leaders together has resulted in advancements such as body-worn cameras, the elimination of ticket quotas, as well as the increased recruitment of people of color and women, which have been important, positive steps in that effort.

“That said, the data collection in the report illustrates that a considerable amount of work remains to be done in our shared efforts to ensure more equitable policing. We stand committed to working with Colonel Callahan, community leaders, the STFA and the dedicated men and women, who make up the ranks of our state police, to continue to push this organization to be a national leader in law enforcement.”
