Sean Spiller Stands Out In First Gubernatorial Debate, Calls This “Our Chance to Change New Jersey”
Lawrenceville, NJ – Tonight, Sean Spiller demonstrated to all New Jerseyans just what sets him apart in the race for governor: His commitment to returning power to the working families and seniors who are all too often shut out of the decisions made in Trenton.
“This is our chance to do things differently – to build a government that focuses on people like you and me, rather than the special interests and the uber rich. We all know who is in the room behind closed doors – making decisions – and we know it’s not us. I’m running for Governor to change that.”
Spiller, who has surged into second place in recent public polls, has centered his campaign on making New Jersey more affordable, laying out plans to tackle the costs of health care, child care, and housing – while cracking down on the corporate special interests that put profit ahead of New Jersey families.
Spiller – a science teacher, coach, union leader, working dad, and the son of immigrant parents – also called out New Jersey’s outdated campaign laws that allow political insiders to pick and choose candidates in backrooms – without any transparency or input from voters.
“Let’s allow the voters to actually pick our candidates, let’s allow the voters to be the ones to decide who’s going to represent us, let’s allow the voters to be the ones who say that candidate represents my interests and they are fighting for me.”
Spiller, an immigrant himself, led the rest of the candidates on stage in calling out Donald Trump’s inhumane and illegal immigration policies. Spiller, who emphatically said “This is not who we are,” promised to stand up to any attempt by ICE to drag New Jersey residents out of schools, churches, and workplaces.
The debate concluded with Spiller promising to continue his fight for working people, kids, and seniors – just as he’s done his entire life.
“I may not be the machine picked candidate – but I want to be your candidate and your Governor.”
