Newark, NJ —- The SEIU New Jersey State Council congratulates the successful primary wins of Democratic legislators with committed records of support for New Jersey workers.

“At this critical juncture, New Jersey workers deserve experienced and skilled representatives with a strong track record as fighters who will continue advocating for issues of importance to our members and their families,” stated SEIUNJ State Council President Megan Chambers, Co-Manager of the Laundry, Distribution, and Food Service (LDFS) Joint Board, Workers United SEIU. “These primary victories are well deserved. The State Council is committed to these champions of labor, and we offer them our enthusiastic support and urge our members to help us get them re-elected on November 5th.”

The six successful representatives have shown leadership on issues such as the $15 minimum wage, paid sick leave, safe staffing ratios in nursing homes, labor harmony agreements for warehouses, and adequate funding for graduate medical education.

Six NJ Senate candidates and one Assembly candidate were identified as “Champions of Labor” after screening by members of the State Council’s affiliate unions. Senator Vin Gopal, District 11 Senator Linda Greenstein, District 14 Senator Andrew Zwicker, District 16 Senator Joe Vitale, District 19 Assemblywoman Annette Quijano, District 20 Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake, who is running for Senate in District 34

The legislature’s makeup is important as legislative districts recently were redrawn, and that state is gearing up to elect a new governor in 2025. The SEIU New Jersey State Council will endorse more candidates before the general election in November.
