SEIU NJ State Council endorses Menendez and slate of Democrats to “flip the House.”

Stakes are high in 2018 midterms

Newark, August 27, 2018 – The SEIU New Jersey State Council – comprised of unions representing more than 23,000 private and public sector workers in critical service industries statewide – has endorsed Sen. Robert Menendez and a slate of Democratic candidates for the House of Representatives in the November midterm elections.

“We chose candidates who will champion issues that are vital to our members such as preserving and expanding access to affordable health care and decent wages, protecting Medicaid and Medicare and immigrants’ rights,” said Wilfredo Larancuent, President of the State Council. “With progressives in Congress we can fight corrosive efforts by the Trump Administration to diminish workers’ rights. We can turn the tide in November.”

“The 2018 midterms are among the most consequential in generations and will have a profound effect on the future of our country,” said Ron McCalla, Assistant Division Director and Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.  “The task facing New Jersey families is clear—we must elect candidates who will fight vigorously to defend workers’ rights, protect access to vital health services, and uphold the highest principles of equality, justice, and democracy.  From now through Election Day, 1199 members will be mobilizing to ensure that we elect a Congressional Delegation that is united in defense of our shared values as working people.”
