June 11, 2024—(NEW JERSEY) New Jersey State Legislators of the 29th district, Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz, Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin and Assemblywoman Shanique Speight, endorse U.S. House of Representative Candidate LaMonica McIver to replace the late Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. in New Jersey’s 10th congressional district.
“As a proud daughter of Newark, I am honored to wholeheartedly endorse McIver for Congress,” stated Senate Majority Leader Ruiz. “LaMonica has consistently championed our initiatives aimed at bolstering funding for our public schools, advancing early childhood education, and enhancing Newark’s rich cultural institutions. I am confident that she will steadfastly lead Newark and the entire Congressional District with excellence in Washington.”

McIver expressed gratitude for the endorsements. “I am grateful for the support of my elected colleagues from Newark,” McIver said. “The work of legislating and securing much-needed resources is a team effort, and I am always eager to fight alongside those who care as deeply for our constituents as I do.”
New Jersey’s 29th legislative district includes much of the City of Newark, stretching as far north as Belleville and south to Newark International Airport. It includes more than 100,000 residents.
LaMonica McIver, 37, is currently the Council President of the Newark Municipal Council, where she has served since 2018 as the youngest elected person in that role. Deemed as the frontrunner in the Congressional race to succeed the late Rep. Donald Payne, Jr., McIver is endorsed by the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, the Essex County Democratic Committee and the Union County Democratic Committee. The special primary election is July 16, 2024 in New Jersey congressional district 10 that includes parts of Essex, Hudson and Union Counties.
