The New Jersey Senate has approved a joint resolution sponsored by Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel.

“New Jersey’s trade partnership with Israel represents more than $1.6 billion. They have been our friends and allies for the better part of a century,” Senator Kean (R-21) said. “The people of Israel are strong and resilient, but they need our continued support. This resolution represents our commitment to working with this great nation, as they strive to achieve peace with their neighbors in the Middle East and around the world.”

On behalf of the Legislature and the Governor, Senator Kean’s joint resolution, SJR-56, reaffirms the bonds of friendship and cooperation that have existed between New Jersey and Israel for seven decades.

The resolution specifically commends the people of Israel for their “remarkable achievements in building a new state and a pluralistic democratic society in the Middle East.”

SJR-56 also recognizes the tragedies that have befallen the people of Israel, including those that fled to Israel after the Holocaust, and the atrocities and terrorist attacks that have occurred in the country over time.

“Israel has proven its strength by rising above the horrors of history to become one of the most successful democracies in the Middle East, with a wealth of economic opportunities for the people who are proud to call the country home,” Senator Kean added. “It is our privilege to congratulate them on the occasion of their 70th anniversary, and wish them many years of peace and prosperity.”
