The following statement was issued today by Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean on the passing of former Senate Republican Executive Director Jim Harkness:

“It is with great sadness that I report the peaceful passing this morning of our friend and former colleague, Jim Harkness. Jim will always be remembered for his intellect and humor, for his love of his wife and children, and for his dedication to public service.

“You could always count on Jim to brighten your day with a good joke and to offer sage advice, often at the same time. Jim was the best of the best. Our Senate Republican family is devastated by his loss today.

“On behalf of the entire caucus, I offer Jean and their children our greatest condolences.”

Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement today on Harkness’ passing:

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Senate Republican Executive Director Jim Harkness.  Jim was an extremely talented, well-respected public servant who will be missed by everyone.

“My sympathy and condolences go out to Jim’s family and friends during this difficult time. May they find comfort in all the wonderful memories they shared together.”
