SENATOR-ELECT VIN GOPAL TO STEINHARDT: MUOIO IMMENSELY QUALIFIED

“To put out a statement of such nonsense – especially since Chairman Steinhardt’s candidate for Governor just lost in a landslide and his party lost even more seats in both legislative houses – is an insult to every New Jersey taxpayer who voted on November 7th to end the political bickering and name-calling once and for all. Republican State Chairman Steinhardt’s comments about Assemblywoman Elizabeth Muoio are the same brand of partisan politics that people are so tired of.

“I have known Assemblywoman Muoio for years and anyone who has met her knows she is one of the smartest and most talented people in New Jersey state government. What is very insulting about Chairman Steinhardt’s statement is that Assemblywoman Muoio is more qualified than any State Treasurer New Jersey has had in the past decade. Her resume speaks for itself. As a multi-term member of the Assembly Budget Committee, Muoio has seen the inner workings of our state’s $35 billion budget first hand. During her three term membership of the Board of Chosen Freeholders, Muoio worked directly on the development of Mercer County’s annual budget. And for nearly a decade, Muoio has served as the Director of Mercer County’s Office of Economic Development and Sustainability where she helps provide the guidance and resources necessary to keep businesses growing and prosperous. Her qualifications are exceptional.

“Her appointment is also historical – as just the second woman ever to hold the position of State Treasurer.

“After 8 years of failed policies the New Jersey Republican Party, struggling for relevancy, should at least wait for the Governor-Elect to take office before they start with the political drivel.”
