Senator Gopal Condemns Alabama Law Criminalizing Abortion
OCEAN TOWNSHIP – Senator Vin Gopal (D-Long Branch) released the following statement condemning Alabama’s new law which would make performing an abortion a felony in nearly all cases:
“Alabama’s new law threatens to take us back to the mid-20th century, in which thousands of women died because they were unable to have a safe and legal procedure,” said Gopal. “Moreover, it is a dangerous notion that this law may allow for any woman suffering a miscarriage to be unjustly arrested or charged with a crime. We must denounce any attempt to abridge a woman’s right to choose, and fight to protect access to reproductive healthcare.”
Senator Vin Gopal represents New Jersey’s 11th Legislative District in the State Senate, where he works to make the Garden State more affordable for its hard-working residents. The 11th District includes the Monmouth County municipalities of Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Colts Neck, Deal, Eatontown, Freehold, Freehold Township, Interlaken, Loch Arbour, Long Branch, Neptune City, Neptune, Ocean Township, Red Bank, Shrewsbury Borough, Shrewsbury Township, Tinton Falls and West Long Branch.
