WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Senator Andy Kim attended his first committee hearing as a United States Senator, where he focused on ‘customer service governance’ and combatting scams, especially those targeting seniors. The hearing, held in the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, was entitled ‘Consumer Protection: Protecting Workers’ Money and Fighting for the Dignity of Work’, and featured Hon. Rohit Chopra, the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

“One of the biggest things that I’ve tried to wrap my head around in this work is this concept I call, ‘customer service governance’,” said Senator Kim. “Just making sure that we’re being responsive to the people; trying to think through all the ways that people interact with government and how we make those interactions as frictionless as possible.”

Senator Kim’s questions to Mr. Chopra included a focus on how CFPB can be more responsive to consumers after fielding more than 93,000 complaints in New Jersey alone, returning more than $60 million to New Jersey residents, what CFPB is doing to address the rise in high tech scams, and the threat of AI to make scams more effective in targeting Americans.

As a member of the House of Representatives, Kim worked to pass a bipartisan bill to crackdown on robocall scammers and held a town hall and a webinar on cybersecurity issues targeting New Jersey residents.
