Senator Kim Named as Ranking Member on Subcommittees Focused on National Security and Disaster Management

WASHINGTON D.C. –  Today, Senator Andy Kim announced that he will serve as the ranking member of the Subcommittee on National Security and International Trade and Finance on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, and the ranking member on the Subcommittee on Disaster Management, District of Columbia, and Census on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

“These subcommittees will allow me to draw on my experience in national security to hit the ground running and deliver for New Jersey,” said Senator Andy Kim. “From strengthening our national security, to working to increase foreign trade into our state, to ensuring that FEMA is working for New Jersey families in need, I’ll put our state’s needs first and work across the aisle to make New Jersey and our entire country safer and more resilient.”

Previously, the Subcommittee on National Security on International Trade and Finance has held jurisdiction over export and foreign trade promotion, export controls and financing, international economic policy, international financial and development institutions, the Export-Import Bank, the International Trade Administration, the Bureau of Export Administration, and the Defense Production Act.

The Subcommittee on Disaster Management, District of Columbia, and Census’ jurisdiction is expected to include FEMA, oversight over the municipal affairs of the District of Columbia, and the administering of the Census.

Senator Kim is a member of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP); the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging. Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Kim represented New Jersey’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House and was a career public servant working in national security and diplomacy at the White House, State Department, and Pentagon.
