Senator Singleton to Partner with Habitat for Humanity for January Community Service Project
Event will be held as a Day of Service in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
MAPLE SHADE, NJ – Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Senator Troy Singleton is partnering with Habitat for Humanity for his January community service project. The “Serve with Senator Singleton” event will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore located at 530 Route 38 East in Maple Shade.
The Senator, who serves on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County & Greater Trenton-Princeton, and a group of volunteers will help paint one of the showrooms in the ReStore. Anyone interested in volunteering can sign-up on the Senator’s website: https://www.senatorsingleton.com/habitat_for_humanity_restore
“Over the past year, I have joined with dozens of volunteers to serve and build stronger communities through our monthly service projects. We have brought together people of different backgrounds, ages, and beliefs to serve for a common purpose – our community,” said Senator Singleton. “It is an honor to once again partner with Habitat for Humanity for our January service event, as it is an organization that is near and dear to my heart for their efforts to provide affordable and stable housing for Burlington County families.”
Senator Singleton led a dozen “Serve with Singleton” events in 2018. Previous efforts included: renovation of the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, a clean-up day at Jacob’s Chapel Ministry Center, painting two Community Options homes, a clean-up day at Strawbridge Lake, a spring cleaning at Providence House, a clothing drive for UIH Family Partners, lunch duty at Beverly United Methodist Church’s summer lunch program, a back-to-school supply drive in partnership with Tabernacle Baptist Church, setting-up Cinnaminson’s Relay for Life, building animal shelters with HousePaws, painting the Roebling VFW, and volunteering at the Extended Hands Ministries homeless shelter.
The ReStore is Habitat for Humanity’s home improvement store open to the public that offers new and used items for 50-90% off the retail price. Proceeds from the store go back to the construction of affordable houses in the community.
“As Dr. King said, ‘Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve…You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love,” said Singleton.
