Meals provided to Burlington County children and families in need
(MOORESTOWN) – As part of his ongoing commitment to address food insecurity throughout his district, Senator Troy Singleton held his 5th annual summer lunch tour this summer to provide a free lunch to children and families in need throughout Burlington County.
The Senator partnered with Corsi Catering to provide more than twelve hundred lunches to residents in his district. Starting in July, the Senator distributed meals consisting of a hoagie, fruit, and a beverage. In all, the Senator’s tour stopped in 10 towns throughout his district, serving 1,250 meals. The Senator partnered with local school districts so they could invite families that receive free/ reduced lunch to the events. The 10 locations included: Bordentown City, Burlington City, Beverly, Florence, Willingboro, Mount Laurel, Palmyra, Cinnaminson, Riverside and Delran.
“Food insecurity is amplified in the summer months due to children not having access to their school lunch programs,” said Senator Singleton. “That is why we have continually partnered with our local school districts to make sure these meals got to those families who need them the most.”
The Senator also noted his appreciation to everyone who partnered with his office to make these events a success – local school districts, Burlington County Board of Commissioners, Burlington County Human Services, Book Smiles, Generations Family Success Center, Legacy, and Center for Family Services.
In addition to offering lunches, other information was made available at these events by community partners. Burlington County Commissioners and representatives from the Burlington County Human Services Office attended the events so families could learn about social service programs offered. The Senator also invited Books Smiles to distribute bags of books to children, and the Center for Family Services and Generations Family Success Center to share information about their Navigator Exchange Program and other services.
The Senator’s summer lunch program is part of his ongoing commitment to serve the communities he represents. In addition to these 10 events, the Senator holds monthly “Serve with Senator Singleton” community service projects, and hosts a number of donation drives throughout the year, including a school supply drive which is ongoing through August 16th.
“I am guided by the idea that service is the rent we pay for living on this earth. That is why we spearhead efforts such as the summer lunch program, monthly community service projects, and annual donation drives. These acts of public service are ways that we can collectively give back to our communities, and make a difference together,” continued Senator Singleton.
