Sheriff Anthony Cureton Completes County Police Merger with Swearing in and Promotional Ceremony

 

Hackensack, N.J. – On Thursday, March 11, 2021, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton held a swearing-in and promotional ceremony which re-promoted twelve (12) officers and moved twenty-five (25) former County Police Officers to County Sheriff’s Officers. This ceremony completes the merger of the Bergen County Police with Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.

 

The ceremony which took place on the steps of the Superior Courthouse in Hackensack, NJ and was attended by family, friends, and law enforcement friends.

 

The collaborative effort between the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, PBA Unions, the County Executive Jim Tedesco and County Commissioners, (formerly Freeholders), laid the framework for Sheriff Anthony Cureton to administer the Oath of Office to twelve (12) officers who were re-promoted and twenty-five (25) County Police Officers who participated in a lateral title change to County Sheriff’s Officers.

“After six years of negotiations, we were able to bring closure to the matter and move forward unified as one law enforcement agency,” Sheriff Anthony Cureton said, “Together we have achieved our agency’s goals. We are more effective & efficient. There will continue to be costs savings, increased public safety, and removal of duplication of services, which are just some of our rewards.”

At the conclusion of the event officers expressed their relief that the past years of turmoil are behind them.
