HACKENSACK, N.J. – Sheriff Anthony Cureton assembled Sheriff’s and Corrections Officers to volunteer and rededicate themselves on the courthouse steps. “Today, we come together unified, as law enforcement officers to rededicate ourselves to the principles of our oath. I can proudly say that the Bergen County Sheriff’s Officers have a reputation of upholding the law and performing our duties faithfully, impartially and justly,” stated Sheriff Cureton.
We recognize at this time (due to social injustices), society is taking a hard look at our proud profession. We are here to show the community that the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office is committed to serving with the same integrity and passion that we had on our first day on the job. This ceremony was not an admission of guilt or answer to any outcries of integrity or commitment to the occupation, but an opportunity to outwardly regain the community’s trust.
“I was honored to be among those Officers who like Sheriff Cureton pledged our fidelity to good, just policing,” said Gayle McElroy, Sheriff’s Officer. “This ceremony represented major steps towards continuing the positive relationship between the men and women of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the diverse communities of our county,” said Sgt. Nichelle Ponder & Officer Fausto Rossy.
“Now is a time to get closer to our community, not to pull away and now is a time to become better, not bitter,” said Sheriff Cureton.
The Rededication Ceremony was attended by County Executive James Tedesco, Freeholder Chairwoman Mary Amoroso, and Freeholder Germaine Ortiz. Sheriff Cureton thanks the Leadership of PBA Locals #134 & #49 for endorsing this initiative.
