Sherrill Applauds Department of Commerce’s New Semiconductor Export Controls that Protect U.S. National and Economic Security
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement after the Department of Commerce announced new export controls that update the existing restrictions developed in October 2022 and protect the domestic development of key technologies crucial to U.S. national and economic security:
“I applaud the Department of Commerce’s updated restrictions on semiconductor and advanced technology exports to countries and entities of concern, such as the Chinese Communist Party, that continue to use unfair economic coercion against U.S. companies and could utilize this technology to threaten our national security. I strongly support this quick, flexible, and proactive response by Secretary Raimondo to protect American innovation and competitiveness, which is critically important to maintaining our position as the world leader in technological development.
“I look forward to building on actions like this, and the CHIPS and Science Act, through my American Jobs and Competition Plan that will help New Jersey businesses get ahead and strengthen our economic security in the face of threats from the CCP.”
As a member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the CCP, Congresswoman Sherrill is fighting to re-shore American manufacturing, strengthen our supply chains and lower costs for families, and ensure New Jersey is a place where businesses can grow, create jobs, and thrive. Last month, she announced the American Jobs and Competition Plan — a legislative package aiming to strengthen America’s economic and national security in the face of competition with the CCP.
