Sherrill Ranked as Most Bipartisan New Jersey Elected Official, Most Effective U.S. Representative

PARSIPPANY, NJ — The nonpartisan Common Ground Committee ranked Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) the most bipartisan elected official in New Jersey, putting her in the top five percent of all elected officials, including U.S. House members, U.S. Senators, and governors. This distinction comes after Sherrill was ranked as the most effective New Jersey House member by the Center for Effective Lawmaking.

“I’ve worked tirelessly to make New Jersey a better and more affordable place to live, work, and raise a family from the moment I entered Congress. I’m always committed to working across the aisle to find common ground and govern, and I won’t back down from a tough fight for our values,” said Congresswoman Sherrill. “I’ll continue working hard to make progress on the issues that matter to New Jersey families — like creating good-paying jobs through infrastructure investments, bringing down the cost of child care, repealing the SALT deduction cap, and protecting women’s reproductive freedoms.”

“American voters want their elected leaders to work together and do the hard work it will take to solve America’s most difficult challenges,” said Bruce Bond, CEO and Co-Founder of the Common Ground Committee. “We know that Members of Congress can work together to find areas of agreement for the good of the country – regardless of their political beliefs. We also believe that sticking to your principles and working to find common ground with your political opponents aren’t mutually exclusive concepts – you can do both. Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill understands that you can disagree without anger or rancor over a given issue, and I hope that more elected officials will follow Mikie’s lead.”

Sherrill has consistently delivered results for New Jersey. Since she was elected, New Jersey has gone from 48th to 22nd in the nation for the federal dollars brought back to the state compared to taxes sent to the federal government. As she promised voters, Sherrill helped get the Gateway Tunnel Project funded — the largest and most critical infrastructure project in the country — which will deliver a massive return on investment to New Jersey, create jobs, and improve commutes. Sherrill followed through on her promise to lower the cost of healthcare, including capping the price of insulin for seniors at $35. Sherrill has also brought home millions in federal funding for Community Projects that address the needs of NJ-11 communities such as flood risk mitigation, anti-car theft technology, teen mental health services, lead pipe removal, and PFAS mitigation.

The Common Ground Scorecard shows on a scale of 0 to 100 how much elected officials — including U.S. House Members, U.S. Senators, and governors — seek to find common ground with members of the other political party. Congresswoman Sherrill earned a score of 76, putting her in the top five percent of all elected officials for finding common ground with her colleagues in Congress on both sides of the aisle. The 2023 Scorecard shows Sherrill’s score is nearly 50 points higher than the overall average score of 28. For more information on the CGC’s methodology and Sherrill’s score, visit here.
