Washington, DC — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) highlighted the challenges facing many of New Jersey’s small and medium sized businesses as they navigate aggressive economic interference from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Congresswoman Sherrill raised these critical issues during remarks and questions at the latest hearing of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the CCP last week.

“The CCP has clearly laid out that it wants to take the lead on this century’s strategic technologies by whatever means necessary, including through forced technology transfers, intellectual property theft, and illegal raids on foreign business. The fact that companies in my district are forced to expend significant resources to navigate China’s internal politics just to do routine business makes this hearing a necessity,” said Rep. Sherrill. “The testimony provided by our witnesses is invaluable as we work to level the playing field for New Jersey and American businesses.”

The witnesses at the hearing included:

  • Desmond Shum, Best Selling Author on China’s Economy and Business Elite
  • Shehzad Qazi, Managing Director of China Beige Book International
  • Piper Lounsbury, Chief Research and Development Officer at Strategy Risks
