Sherrill Statement on House Passage of Emergency Humanitarian Aid Funding Bill

Washington, DC — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement after the bipartisan vote in the House of Representatives today for an emergency funding package to address the humanitarian crisis at the southern border:

“Any parent in the United States should be horrified by the photos and stories that have come out in the last week detailing the conditions at Customs and Border Protection facilities and the dangerous situation at our southern border.

“We can no longer simply stand by and watch children die and families suffer. The bill that passed today with overwhelming bipartisan support from the House and Senate will provide immediate relief. It will protect children at the border, improve conditions at detention facilities, and authorize additional immigration judges to address the backlog in our courts. This emergency package is a first step, but it is critical that Congress do more than react to crisis. We must come together and pass comprehensive immigration reform to address our failed system and to live up to our values as a nation.”
