Sherrill Statement Marking the Third Anniversary of the Brutal Invasion of Ukraine
WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), a former Russian Policy Officer in the United States Navy and member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement marking the third anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine:
“On the third anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion, we continue to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and remember the lives lost in this senselessly violent war. The Ukrainian people have shown incredible strength and resolve in defending their country and their democracy. I had the privilege of seeing that determination firsthand during my two trips to Ukraine — right before the Russian invasion and again during the war. Our Ukrainian-American friends and neighbors here in North Jersey have shown that same strength, resolve, and support — which I have been honored to share with President Zelensky in all of our meetings.
“Yet, after three hard-fought years, President Trump is siding with Russian Dictator Vladimir Putin — and turning his back on Ukraine. Today’s decision to side with Russia and North Korea in refusing to condemn Russia’s invasion is a slap in the face to the thousands of Ukrainians who have given their lives to protect their homeland and democracy. This decision will cost Ukrainian lives, threaten America’s national security, weaken our allies, and strengthen our foes worldwide. America has stood with the Ukrainian people since the beginning of this war, and I will continue to fight to preserve America’s support for our ally — it would be a grave mistake to abandon Ukraine now.”
