Sherrill Statement on Congestion Pricing
Sherrill Statement on Congestion Pricing
LIVINGSTON, NJ –– Today, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill released the following statement after reports that New York Governor Kathy Hochul is considering reviving New York’s congestion pricing scheme:
“Gov. Hochul’s congestion pricing scheme is an ill-thought out plan to fund the MTA on the backs of New Jerseyans. Not only will it cause longer commuting times – and more pollution – as commuters seek cheaper routes into the city, but the revenue paid by New Jerseyans will not go toward fixing NJ TRANSIT. This will result in more cars on the road as commuters abandon rail due to decreasing reliability.
“Gov. Hochul is sending a clear message to New Jerseyans who are essential to New York’s prosperity: You are simply a meal ticket for the MTA. If that is the case, then we will work to make it easier for the workforce to remain here in the Garden State by supporting the many New York companies that have chosen to expand in New Jersey, working with communities near the city where meetings can be held, and expanding office sharing sites so people can work remotely.”
