Sherrill Statement on Supreme Court Bump Stock Ruling 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), a former Navy helicopter pilot, released the following statement on the Supreme Court ruling in Garland v. Cargill:

“I was trained as an expert shot in the Navy, and I know that weapons of war have no place on our streets. New Jersey has proven that gun safety laws work. But the far right Supreme Court continues to undermine our progress – which will lead to even more carnage and lives lost. Bump stocks serve no purpose other than to enable even more deadly mass shootings, as we tragically saw in Las Vegas. Overturning the ATF’s rule banning bump stocks is a dangerous decision — and now Congress must act to pass the Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act to protect our communities, schools, and children from gun violence.”
