Sherrill Statement on the Passing of Congressman Donald Payne Jr.

Livingston, NJ — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement:

“I am heartbroken to lose my friend Congressman Donald Payne. He was a model public servant, who from a young age strove to make New Jersey a better place for everyone. There is no question his commitment to strengthening public education and expanding access to health care changed people’s lives. The advice, encouragement, and support Donald offered me when I first entered politics sticks with me to this day. Donald was someone who went out of his way to make others feel welcomed and heard. He was one of a kind. I will miss him dearly. It was an honor, for many years, to call him my congressman. May he rest in peace. My heart is with his family and all who loved him.”
