Sierra Club Endorses Andrew Zwicker and Roy Freiman for 16th District

Princeton- The New Jersey Sierra Club has endorsed Andrew Zwicker and Roy Freiman for Assembly in the 16th district. Assemblymen Zwicker and Freiman are both incumbents who have strong environmental records.

“Both Assemblyman Roy Freiman and Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker have shown to the Sierra Club an increasing concern about the importance of maintaining a sustainable natural environment,” said Kip Cherry; Conservation Chair, Sierra Club NJ – Central Group. “Assemblyman Freiman’s Green Acres bill (A4751) is an important step, and Assemblyman Zwicker has shown major leadership in forming the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, and in such areas as electric vehicle infrastructure (A1371) and funding for global warming solutions (A3734). We know that both incumbents have very competitive elections and want to make sure that the environmental community gets out and gives them the support they deserve.”

“The Sierra Club is one of the most influential and longstanding environmental organizations in the country and the NJ Chapter continues to be the standard-bearer for grassroots environmental organizations in our State,” said Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker.” “As a scientist, I have dedicated my professional life to the development of fusion energy, a carbon-free, safe, and virtually unlimited source of energy that will transform our world. As a legislator, I am focused on protecting NJ’s air, land, and water and am the author of numerous pieces of legislation designed to do just that. I look forward to continuing this work, knowing that the work we do today will have an impact on the generations that follow. I am honored to be endorsed by the NJ Sierra Club.”

“I am both honored and proud to have received an endorsement from the Sierra Club. It is our responsibility, not just as legislators, but as members of society to ensure our children and the generations after are inheriting a clean, sustainable environment, said Assemblyman Roy Freiman.” “Throughout my first term, I made it a priority to enact legislation that preserves New Jersey’s open space and bans offshore drilling. I fully plan to continue my commitment of protecting our environment as well as the residents of the 16th district.”

The 16th Legislative District includes parts of Middlesex, Mercer, Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. Including the municipalities of Princeton, South Brunswick, Rocky Hill, Montgomery, Manville, Millstone, Hillsborough, Somerville, Branchburg, Raritan Township, Readington Township, Flemington, Delaware Township, and Stockton.

The Sierra Club is not only the nation’s oldest and largest environmental group, but one of the most influential when it comes to making political endorsements. As Tittel describes it, “The Sierra Club endorsement is the green version of the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.”
