National Electric Vehicles Week Event in Atlantic City
WHAT: The New Jersey Sierra Club will join electric vehicle advocates and the Atlantic County Utilities Authority to show the need to increase plug-in electric vehicles in New Jersey. Cars and tracks are responsible for half of our nation’s oil consumption and one-fifth of carbon pollution. In New Jersey, air pollution levels are dangerous for smog and ozone and we must reduce as much pollution as we can from cars and trucks. Not only are there many clean-air benefits to driving electric vehicles, but consumers will also save a significant amount of money on gas by driving an electric vehicle. By increasing electric vehicle sales, it will help car dealers, New Jersey companies who supply parts, grow our economy, and create other green jobs.
WHEN: Tuesday, September 12th at 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
WHERE: 1801 Absecon Blvd. Atlantic City, NJ 08401
Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club, issued the following statement:
“We need to be driving New Jersey forward with more electric vehicles because they are a win-win for our environment. We are joining together in Atlantic City to celebrate electric vehicles because it is a great example of how we can charge our vehicles with renewable energy like solar and wind. This show we have the ability to move this country forward with an automobile that has zero emissions and decrease fossil fuels. The biggest source of air pollution and greenhouse gases in our state comes from automobiles, which is why we need to increase electric vehicles. Electric vehicles not only help reduce dangerous smog and ozone levels, but also help fight climate change. It is ironic that while we are going into National Electric Vehicle Week, we are seeing Hurricanes like Harvey and Irma devastate communities because of the increasing threat of climate change. The more we move toward cleaner vehicles, the less we are held hostage to severe storms because they release less greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate impacts.”
“In New Jersey, we could have had 30,000 electric vehicles by now, but we have been getting zapped by the Christie Administration. We need charging stations at every corner of the New Jersey because it will actually help reduce pollution. Electric vehicles will be able to save people money on gas, reduce air pollution, while promoting jobs and a green economy. While Trump is rolling back CAFE standards, it makes it even more important for New Jersey to be a leader in electric vehicles and the infrastructure to support them. As we enter the next Administration, we need to stop the gridlock with electric vehicles.”
