Singer, Verrelli Commend DOH Overdose Study Grants for Municipalities

(TRENTON)- On the recent announcement by the Department of Health to create overdose study grant opportunities for local health departments, Senator Robert Singer (R-Monmouth, Ocean) and Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli (D-Mercer, Middlesex, Hunterdon) issued the following statement:

“We commend the New Jersey Department of Health for creating a grant program to expand and integrate overdose fatality review teams (OFRTs) across the state.

“This program will do exactly what we wanted to accomplish with our bill, A-798 (Verrelli) / S-52 (Singer), which aimed to establish OFRTs in each county through legislative action.

“We applaud the administration of Governor Phil Murphy for not waiting for this measure to progress through both chambers of the legislature to implement OFRTs as soon as possible.

“It is only with rigorous data analysis, research, and evaluation that we can further our work of preventing fatal drug overdoses among our families, friends, and neighbors.”
