SINGLETON STATEMENT ON CONDITIONAL VETO OF HURRICANE IDA BILL

TRENTON –The following is a statement by Senator Troy Singleton (D-Burlington) in response to Governor Phil Murphy’s conditional veto of Assembly Bill 2294, which would provide mortgage relief and foreclosure protection to homeowners impacted by Hurricane Ida:

“After three long years, families whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Ida remain financially burdened from the effects of the storm. Every day, week, month and year of inaction, is more time these families suffer financially and emotionally.

“I previously worked directly with the Governor’s Office on compromise language that would have allowed this proposed law to greatly assist impacted homeowners by providing urgently needed mortgage relief and temporary foreclosure protections. While I am greatly disappointed and frankly surprised by the new concerns outlined in the conditional veto issued today, I will nonetheless review it closely to determine next steps.”
