Sires and Payne, Jr. Announce CARES Act Funding to Local Community Health Centers

(Washington, D.C.)- Today, Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ) and Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (D-NJ) announced that HHS has awarded two Community Health Centers (CHCs) that serve North Jersey residents with much needed funding to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Newark Community Health Centers, Inc. was awarded $1,608,965 and North Hudson Community Action Corporation received $2,547,890. This funding was provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which was signed into law on March 27, 2020.

“Our Community Health Centers play vital roles in providing comprehensive, quality care – often to the most underserved – in our community. As the coronavirus continues to take its toll on New Jersey, CHCs such as Newark Community Health Centers, Inc. and North Hudson Community Action Corporation are on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, working to lighten the burden on hospitals and address the needs of our residents,” said Congressman Sires. “This funding is desperately needed as our CHCs struggle to stay afloat under the demands of this public health emergency and I am encouraged that this funding might be a first step in providing some relief. Newark Community Health Centers and North Hudson Community Action Corporation together served a combined total of over 121,000 patients in 2018 and have been central components of health and wellness for North Jersey communities for decades. I will continue to support their critical work and that of all Community Health Centers.”
