Small Administration Announces Timeline, Detour Information for Replacement of First Venice Park Bridge

First Venice Park Bridge (Over Penrose Ave.) to Close Monday, December 6

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (December 1, 2021) – Today, the Small Administration announced that starting next Monday, December 6, the City Engineer’s Office, through South State Inc., will begin to implement major infrastructure improvements in Venice Park with the commencement of construction on the First Venice Park Bridge (over Penrose Avenue). The First Venice Park Bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic as the bridge will be replaced in its entirety.

“We are committed to making the necessary investments to increase connectivity and improve safety for the residents of Venice Park, and look forward to the commencement of this critical infrastructure project,” said Mayor Marty Small, Sr.

 

Construction for this project is expected to last six months. During this time, Ohio Avenue will be closed from East Riverside Drive to Horace Bryant Jr. Drive. Detour information and traffic control plans can be found below:

Detour Route Traveling East on Ohio Avenue:

  • Motorists will be directed to the Eastbound service road on Eastbound Route 30 and to Huron Avenue.

 

Detour Route Traveling West on Ohio Avenue:

  • Motorists will be directed to the MLK/Route 30 Intersection to Route 30 in order to access the Westbound service road adjacent to Route 30 Westbound and Gramercy Avenue.

A map of the detour route is also available on the City’s website. Message boards and detour signs will be placed within the vicinity of the First Venice Park Bridge (over Penrose Ave.) to notify residents of the upcoming bridge closure beginning Wednesday, December 1.

City officials will also provide an update on the status of the Ohio Avenue Bridge (over Penrose Ave.) Replacement Project at the Venice Park Civic Association Meeting on Thursday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m.
