Smith Statement on Passage of Electric Car Bill out of Committee

Trenton – Senator Bob Smith issued the following statement about the passage of the plug-in electric vehicle bills out of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee today:

“This is just the first step in moving New Jersey towards a future where driving an electric vehicle will become the norm. Electric vehicles will play a central role in our efforts to tackle climate change, and I am glad we are prioritizing them as part of New Jersey’s larger efforts in addressing this vital issue.

“The electric vehicle bill has been amended to focus on incentivizing moderate income New Jerseyans to purchase electric vehicles.  I believe this change will greatly stimulate the number of electric vehicles on the roadways in New Jersey and help significantly to reduce emissions of CO2 gases and avoid the worst effects of global warming.

“In the upcoming sessions, we will continue to make electric vehicles more desirable, expand access to charging stations, and reduce the carbon footprint of New Jersey.”
