Somerset County, NJ – The Somerset County LGBT Democratic Caucus was proud to participate in the Jersey Pride Parade in Asbury Park on Sunday, June 4th.

The Somerset County LGBT Democratic Caucus float which featured colorful decorations representing the Pride Flag and Drag Queen Cissy Walken and entertainer Maximus was ridden by Somerset County Democratic Committee Chairwoman Peg Schaffer, Somerset County Commissioner Melonie Marano, South Bound Brook Councilwoman Elizabeth Konkle, along with Democratic Candidates Jennifer Dawson of Green Brook, and Ashley Neuman of Manville in addition to Somerset County LGBT Democratic Caucus Chairwoman Rhoda Amini and many other caucus members and allies.

“Pride celebrations like this are so important to our community.” stated Chairwoman Amini. “In a time when our rights are being trampled on throughout the country we must acknowledge how lucky we are to live in New Jersey where we are governed by representatives that pass laws to protect our basic rights to be who we are and love who we love.”

“Somerset County Democratic Committee is proud to have had the first LGBT Caucus in the state” stated Chairwoman Peg Schaffer.

Somerset County Democrats LGBTQ Caucus’s mission:
Support the Somerset County Democratic Committee & its recognized candidates for public office.
Provide a forum in which LGBTQ+ community members, allies and Democratic supporters can gather to discuss current issues and to provide the county Democratic organization with advice on matters of interest affecting the LGBTQA+ community.
Be involved with the candidate selection process for those seeking public office by providing education on issues pertinent to the LGBTQA+ community.
Be a public advocate for issues of importance to the LGBTQA+ community.
