Somerset County Republicans Creating Fake Scandals Because They Have Nothing to Run On, Need to Distract Voters With Spin

Despite Real Scandals Under Maeder’s Watch in Manville, The Republican Party Chooses to Distract by Undermining Voters’ Faith in Democracy

The Somerset Republican candidate for County Clerk has no issues to run on, so she is spinning as hard as she can to undermine the voters’ faith In elections and democracy. Just like the national Republican Party continued claims the 2020 election was stolen with no evidence, candidate Maeder is exaggerating and manipulating facts to try to create distrust in the voters’ minds.

“As County Clerk, I am responsible for ensuring every voter gets the proper ballot, and when I discovered the printer’s error in the 2020 primary I immediately ordered the reprinting and remailing of the ballots at the vendor’s expense,” said Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter. “I ensured that every voter received the proper ballot, no improper ballots were submitted, and the process of checks and balances I implemented in County elections worked.”

Despite Maeder’s claims of partisan politics in the selection of vendors, Republican Clerk Brett Radi also repeatedly hired Reliance Graphics through the same public bidding process used today. Mr. Radi was later hired by the Manville Republicans to be the Borough Clerk, where he reported to Ms. Maeder and the Borough Council.

Additionally, Reliance Graphics has donated $4,400 to the Somerset County Republican Executive Committee over the past six years and is a donor to the Republican State Committee and former Republican Governor Donald DiFrancesco.

“Ms. Maeder needs a scandal because she has nothing to run on, so she’s creating one out of thin air. The fact is our vendor hiring process is blind, part of a mandated bidding process that goes to the lowest bidder,” said Clerk Steve Peter. “The fact that the vendor in question was previously brought on by a Republican Clerk who is a regular donor to the Somerset County Republican Committee proves that the process is completely non-partisan and transparent.”
