Somerset County Young Republicans elect new leadership, launch ambitious plan for 2022

Somerville, NJ – The Somerset County Young Republicans (YR) elected a new Executive Board this month as they gear up for 2022 and the competitive election cycle to come.

Outgoing Somerset County YR Chair and Executive Director of the Somerset County Republican Organization (SCRO) Maggie Cucci of Somerville opened the meeting and reflected on the accomplishments of the club over the past year. “Our joint efforts have included creating a lasting financial framework for our organization, hosting a series of virtual policy events as well as the Somerset Patriots game outing, and providing ground and financial support to YR candidates in Somerset County.”

Cucci thanked the club for a successful tenure. “It has been an honor to serve as Chair for the past year and a half. We have a deep bench of talent in this county, and the time has come for someone else to shine in this role. I am proud to support my longtime friend Josh Kutner for Chair.”

On December 21st, the Somerset County YRs elected the following individuals by unanimous vote:
Chair: Josh Kutner (Franklin)
Vice Chair: Tyler Seville (Bernards)
Secretary: Freddie Hayeck (Watchung)
Treasurer: Maggie Cucci (Somerville)
State Committeeman: James White (Warren)
State Committeewoman: Amber Murad (Watchung)

“Josh has served our club as Treasurer these past few years and previously chaired the George Washington University College Republicans, one of the largest and most active CR chapters in the country,” Cucci said as she turned over the meeting to her successor. “He is gifted with creativity, vision, and leadership in addition to being an extremely bright and kindhearted person. I am fully confident in his ability to grow the Somerset YRs into one of the largest chapters in the state, and look forward to working with him in a continued partnership between the SCRO and the YRs.”

Josh Kutner, who most recently worked on Jack Ciattarelli’s gubernatorial campaign, thanked Cucci for her services and leadership and outlined how he hopes to build on the success of the outgoing Chair. Among his objectives for the current year, Kutner outlined a plan to organize a greater number of social events, promote an enhanced social media presence, and play an active role in the 2022 midterm election cycle. He also highlighted his intention to build greater partnerships with other YR groups across the state in order to “provide a greater variety of joint events throughout the year and an expanded networking potential for our members.”

Each member of the Executive Board brings a unique skill set to the table. Vice Chair Tyler Seville works as a health policy director in the pharmaceutical industry, heads up the digital campaign for the Bernards GOP, and is a board member to the Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board. Secretary Freddie Hayeck serves on the Watchung Borough Council, where he was elected at age 21 by a wide margin in a tough election cycle after running an excellent campaign. State Committeeman James White recently founded his own law practice after many years at Assemblyman Jay Webber’s district office and on his 2018 congressional campaign. State Committeewoman Amber Murad ran an impressive race for Somerset County Commissioner this year alongside running mate Michael Kirsh, coming within 1% of knocking off the incumbents and proving that victory is within reach for Somerset County Republicans.

In closing, Kutner remarked, “Over the past few years, the SCRO has done a tremendous job of recruiting diverse, young candidates to run for public office and winning back several key municipal offices throughout the county. I look forward to assisting with these efforts and ensuring that the Somerset County Young Republicans help to lead the charge in next year’s pivotal municipal, county, and congressional races.”
