Newark, NJ – A press conference was held today at Newark Penn Station with Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver and Better Choices for New Jersey Coalition to call on the New Jersey State Legislature to pass a compromise budget offered by Governor Murphy to avoid a government shut down as the clock strikes midnight June 30th and move New Jersey towards a more stable and equitable budget.

Clean Water Action, a proud member of the Better Choices for New Jersey Coalition, issued the following statement:

“A sound state budget is one that is just and protects our rights to clean air, healthy communities, safe workplaces and good jobs…keeps the lights on, people moving on time, and with less impact on our health and planet…speaks to and addresses cities like Newark that are rising up and doing good,” said Amy Goldsmith, State Director of Clean Water Action.

“We need the State House to get it right this time – embracing long term remedies as proposed by the Governor, establishing true fairness in who contributes, not short-term gimmicks or raiding environmental funds to balance the budget.”
