South Jersey Democratic Women’s Forum – Letter of support for Thelma Witherspoon

The South Jersey Democratic Women’s Forum expresses continued support for Thelma Witherspoon, who won the November 2020 election for the Atlantic County Board of Commissioners. The results are contested because the wrong ballots were sent to some voters in the district.

Ms. Witherspoon’s 35-year career with the City of Atlantic City, including the Police Department, developed her insight into the community’s needs. She also served as Vice President and President of the Atlantic City Board of Education.

This is an experienced leader with a history of engagement with our community. She is familiar with the concerns of Atlantic County residents and will fairly represent their interests on the Board of County Commissioners. A delay in her service is a delay in representation for the people of Atlantic County.

A special election is planned for April, but Ms. Witherspoon was not permitted to serve as interim Commissioner until that time. There are five scheduled meetings of the County Commissioners between the judge’s February 3 decision not to meet and the April 20 election. At this time the seat is considered vacant.

South Jersey Democratic Women’s Forum endeavors to help women of vision to develop into strong leaders at all levels of government. Find more information at https://sjdwf.com/home/who-we-are/ or email sjdwf.atlanticcape@gmail.com .
