South Ward Councilman’s Statement on the Passing of Congressman Donald Payne Jr.

 

Newark, NJ – April 24, 2024 – The South Ward is saddened by the loss of United States Congressman Donald Payne Jr.  We send our deepest condolences to his family and staff, as well as the South Ward and the entire City of Newark. Congressman Payne and his legacy will never be forgotten. We will always remember his progressive attitude and passion for equality, social justice, and a better quality of life for all. We will forever applaud his progress made as an Essex County Freeholder, Councilman-At-Large, Council President, and United States Congressman. Congressman Payne was a dedicated public servant and South Ward resident who consistently put the needs of many over his own. South Ward Councilman and South Ward Democratic Chairman Patrick Council says, “Congressman Payne and myself had a friendship that transcended politics. We always worked together for the benefit of South Ward residents and the 10th Congressional District”. Congressman Payne’s consistent work on policies and issues will always be appreciated, as his efforts helped keep the South Ward together. We send endless amounts of thoughts and prayers to his family and the community.
