‘Your neighbor may be among N.J.’s hungry. We can solve this crisis’

 

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) had the following published on nj.com:

 

“Consider your neighborhood and the two homes next to yours.

“Then consider that living in one of those three homes is someone without enough food. Someone who goes to bed with an empty stomach. Someone who is missing their chance to grasp their full potential. Someone who is hungry.

“New Jersey is one of the wealthiest states in the nation, yet about 12 percent of New Jersey residents go to bed hungry. That’s about 1 of every 8 residents. That’s your neighbor.

“I’ve made combating hunger a top priority as New Jersey’s Assembly speaker, and I understand this isn’t an easy problem. Still, doing hard things is a mantra of mine — and as I heard recently from a gentleman who was telling us how he struggles to make ends meet each and every day, ‘Where do I begin?’
