Speaker Coughlin Statement on Graduation Requirements

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement on New Jersey graduation requirements:

“The issue of testing is critically important to many residents of our state. Recent court rulings have precipitated the need to address the issue of testing and assessment for the short-term protection of children graduating in the next few years. The bill was posted in order to ensure that as a legislative body we had the opportunity to hear this bill in light of the new agreement in front of the court. After discussions with our caucus members, as well as constituents, it was decided to hold the legislation for the time being pending a better understanding of what will be necessary to deal with the issue as it stands today.”
