Speaker Coughlin’s Graduation Insurance Bill Approved by Full Assembly

(TRENTON) – The full Assembly voted 77-0-0 today approving Speaker Craig Coughlin’s (D-Middlesex) legislation (A-4227) to ensure school districts and students in New Jersey are protected with proper liability insurance should they host graduation ceremonies after June 30, 2020. The Speaker issued the following statement:

“We must ensure that graduating high school seniors continue to be covered under a school district’s liability insurance policy after June 30.

“This bill moved by the Assembly today would provide liability insurance coverage to graduates who attend school district-sponsored graduation ceremonies on school grounds between July 6, 2020 and July 31, 2020.

“We are experiencing unprecedented challenges as we live through the COVID-19 pandemic. Graduation is a rite of passage for high school seniors. We must put all possible safeguards in place so that students can safely celebrate a milestone they’ll remember forever.”
