Spearman, Chiaravalloti & Mukherji on Assembly Approval of A-4701:

Food waste or loss is a growing concern that affects the environment, the economy and the potential impact we can make on ending hunger in the state.”

Measure is One of Multiple Anti-Hunger Bills Passed by the Assembly Monday

(TRENTON) – On legislation creating an online website to assist in coordinating surplus food donations among nonprofits, gleaners, and food retailers in the state, Assembly Democrats William Spearman, Nicholas Chiaravalloti and Raj Mukherji issued the following joint statement Monday:

“Food waste or loss is a growing concern that affects the environment, the economy and the potential impact we can make on ending hunger in the state.

“Most food loss occurs at the production and retail level. Giving nonprofit organizations, farmers and retailers a way to collaborate surplus food donations will help reduce food loss tremendously in the state. With a more concerted effort, we can put more food into pantries and onto dining tables of New Jersey homes that are fighting hunger.”
