Spiller: NJ delegation must support Biden’s Build Back Better agenda

“New Jersey’s congressional delegation has a historic opportunity in the coming weeks to stand up for students by voting to make critical investments that are key to building a better future for our children.

President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, the keystone of his domestic policy, is, at heart, a proposal based on strengthening our nation’s working families.

It proposes $450 billion to expand access to early childhood education and set young learners on the path to future academic success.

It extends the federal Child Tax Credit, which cut the child poverty rate in half when it was expanded earlier this year and provides resources for working parents to buy school supplies, provide adequate nutrition and ensure housing security so children can come to school ready to learn.

And it includes the Reopen and Rebuild America’s Schools Act to create a $100 billion grant program targeting high-poverty schools whose facilities pose health and safety risks to students and staff.

Several of New Jersey’s congressional representatives are already playing a critical role in making these proposals a reality as Congress begins to debate the president’s plan over the coming weeks.”
