Westampton, March 26, 2021 – Current State Assemblywoman and former Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield criticized her opponent, Senator Dawn Addiego, and Assembly Democrats for a bill that she says is a continuation of partisan attacks against police officers by an increasingly extreme Democratic Party in Trenton.

Stanfield was pointing to a bill that Addiego voted for in her Senate Committee last year, and that passed the State Assembly yesterday, that would bar any police officers including those off duty from being within 100 feet of a polling place and bar ballot drop boxes from being placed within 100 feet of a police station.

“As a former County Sheriff who spent my career in law enforcement, I know firsthand the decency and dedication exemplified each and every day by local police officers, county sheriff’s officers, and state troopers who swear an oath to protect and serve their communities,” said Stanfield. “To watch Senator Addiego and my colleagues in the Assembly vote in support of a bill that suggests all cops are inherently bad people who can’t be trusted, or worse, that they are likely to commit crimes like voter suppression, makes my blood boil. It’s an unfair and divisive attack and I can’t in good conscience not come out and condemn those responsible publicly. Senator Addiego, who for years claimed to be pro-police officer, owes her constituents an explanation for this truly radical, anti-law enforcement vote.”
