Stanfield, Umba And Torrissi To Place Flags Of Honor On Veterans’ Graves

When: Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

Where: Mount Holly VFW Post 2692, 199 South Avenue, Mount Holly

MARLTON – Senator Jean Stanfield, Assemblyman Brandon Umba and Assemblyman Michael Torrissi will assist Mount Holly VFW Post 2692 and American Legion Mount Holly Post 11 with honoring the memory of the brave men and women who have served our country by placing American flags on their graves ahead of Memorial Day.

“This is our third year participating in this pre-Memorial Day volunteer effort. I’m incredibly thankful to Mount Holly VFW Post 2692 for keeping the memories of our veterans alive, year in and year out,” Stanfield said.

The legislators and their district office team are welcoming any community volunteers to join this effort and pay their respects to those who have sacrificed their lives for our country. The goal of this event is to place about 1400 flags on the graves of veterans buried in cemeteries in Mount Holly and Hainesport to show our respect and gratitude for their service. Community volunteers should come prepared for walking on uneven cemetery roads and grounds and wear comfortable footwear.

“Throughout the year, the flags on the graves of our military heroes get worn and tattered. To respect their sacrifice, we make sure they have a fresh flag every year,” Umba said.

“While Memorial Day is certainly a time people enjoy R&R with their families, we can’t forget what we’re honoring. This Day of Service is a good way to do that,” Torrissi continued.

If you would like to join or cover the event, feel free to show up at the Mount Holly VFW by 9 am on May 20 or call Chief of Staff Brian Woods at 856-817-2143 for more information.

This event fulfills Stanfield, Torrissi and Umba’s pledge to do a “District Day of Service” every month. The District 8 team and their staff have painted and stocked a domestic violence safe house, provided more than 1,000 free meals for seniors in need, gleaned hundreds of pounds of produce from farms for food pantries, collected diapers for women and infants in need and much more.
