State College Locals AFT/AFL-CIO endorses Colon candidacy

 

The Council of New Jersey State College Locals AFT/AFL-CIO has endorsed Eliot Arlo Colon, candidate for New Jersey Assembly in Legislative District 30, the Colon campaign announced on Monday.

 

In a letter to Mr. Colon, the group stressed that their endorsement of him was “based on your commitment to quality affordable higher education, a vital public sector and the principles of collective bargaining.”

 

The union group represents 10,000 faculty, adjunct faculty, librarians, and professional staff at New Jersey’s nine state colleges and universities; The College of New Jersey, Kean University, Montclair State University, New Jersey City University and the A. Harry Moore School, Ramapo College of New Jersey, Stockton University, Rowan University, Thomas Edison State University and William Paterson University, according to the group’s website.

 

Responding to the endorsement, Mr. Colon said, “Having served 7 years on Brielle’s board of education and as a member of the Brielle Education Foundation, education is at the core of my platform. As we look to improve education standards, funding formula, and accountability throughout the district, we must also remain committed to ensuring quality affordable education for our college and graduate students.

 

“Should I be elected to the Assembly, I will work as hard as I can to provide all students of New Jersey with the best education they can receive while making it more affordable for them and their families,” said Mr. Colon.

 

The general election for NJ Assembly is on November 7, 2017 in which Colon is battling against incumbents, Sean T. Kean and party installed incumbent, Ned Thomson, who was named David Rible’s replacement as Assemblymen after his resignation to serve as the Director of the NJ ABC in June 2017.

 

About Assembly Candidate Eliot Arlo Colon: Assembly Candidate Colon is the President of the Brielle Board of Education, having served six years on the board of education. Colon is also the Chairman of the Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan, NJ and Partner/Co-Owner of Miro Consulting, Inc. based in Woodbridge, NJ which was previously named NJBIZ Fastest Growing Company. Colon was named NJBIZ Executive of the Year finalist and Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalists four years in a row.

 

Assembly Candidate Colon, born August 19, 1969, grew up in Edison, N.J. He resides in Brielle Township with his wife Lorene, and two teenage sons.
