State Policemen’s Benevolent Association Endorses Somerset County Commissioners Robinson and Sooy for Reelection

Somerville, NJ – The 32,000 member New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA)
announced this week it has endorsed the reelection of Somerset County Commissioner Director Shanel
Y. Robinson and Deputy Director Sara Sooy.

“As members of the Somerset County Board of County Commissioners you have established yourselves
as friends of labor,” wrote PBA State President Pat Colligan. “You have shown genuine appreciation for
the sacrifices of our members in service to the public, most recently after the horrific impact of
Hurricane Ida. You have demonstrated that you are willing to be a partner with our members to serve
and protect the people of Somerset County.”

The endorsement follows Commissioners Robinson and Sooy’s support for increased shared services
between the Sheriff Darrin Russo’s department and local law enforcement, support of local and county
first responders during the COVID pandemic and Hurricane Ida, and the innovative Community Police
Alliance project launched in partnership with the Bridgewater Police Department in September 2021.

“We are extremely pleased to receive the endorsement of the PBA and Somerset County’s law
enforcement community for our reelection campaign and for recognizing our support for local police,”
said Commissioner Director Robinson. “Whether providing free COVID and flu vaccine for first
responders, coordinating the response to natural disasters such as Hurricane Ida, or developing
innovative programs like the Community Police Alliance to aid the Bridgewater Police in helping at risk residents, Somerset County under Democratic leadership is there for law enforcement.”

This is the second endorsement of Robinson and Sooy by the PBA, following its support of their election
to the Somerset County Board of Freeholders in 2018.

“Working with local police and the Sheriff’s officers to evacuate victims of Hurricane Ida, including
myself when my own home flooded, and set up the shelter in Basking Ridge was an honor I won’t ever
forget,” said Commissioner Deputy Director Sooy. “That these courageous men and women support our
reelection is an even greater honor.”
