STATEMENT BY ATTORNEY WILLIAM O. WAGSTAFF III ON ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

OF FATAL SHOOTING OF MAURICE GORDON, JR. BY NEW JERSEY STATE TROOPER

White Plains, NY (May 23, 2021) William O. Wagstaff, III, the attorney who represents the family of Maurice Gordon, Jr. who was fatally shot by New Jersey State Police Sergeant Randall Wetzell after a traffic stop on the Garden State Parkway on May 23, 2020, releases the following statement on the one-year anniversary of his death.

“This past year, I have watched the family of Maurice Gordon Jr. suffer unconscionable pain. While the world has gone on, Maurice’s family remains in limbo and are still grieving his death. First to lose a loved one in the prime of his life, and then be denied answers to questions surrounding the circumstances of his death is something no family should ever have to experience. It’s been 365 days and the New Jersey Attorney General’s office has still failed to send the case of Maurice’s killing to the Grand Jury as required by NJ State law, nor has the Attorney General released crucial evidence to the family. I will not stop fighting until justice is served and it begins with Sgt. Wetzel being fired for his failure to provide first aid to Junior after he unjustly shot him six times.”
