Statement by Governor Murphy and Lieutenant Governor Way on the Passing of Jennie Oliver

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Jennie Oliver. Jennie was the mother of Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver, our sorely missed partner in government and dear friend.

“A dedicated civil servant, Jennie instilled in her children valuable life lessons, encouraging them to be critical thinkers and fostering their passion for helping others. From her roots in Jersey City, to the years spent raising her family in Newark, and finally to her home in East Orange, Jennie touched the lives of so many across our state.

“We will remember Jennie for her remarkable character and her enduring strength. Our thoughts and prayers today are with Jennie’s son Charles Sr., daughter-in-law Sylvia, her grandchildren — Leah, Charles Jr., and Renee — and the entire Oliver family. She will be deeply missed.”
