Statement by Mikie Sherrill on the President’s Pardons for January 6 Rioters
BLOOMFIELD — Today, Mikie Sherrill released the following statement on President Trump’s pardons for more than 1,000 individuals who were convicted of criminal offenses related to the violent U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021:
“These pardons undermine the rule of law and betray the brave law enforcement officers who risked their lives defending the Capitol on January 6. It is even more disturbing that the president pardoned violent offenders — like Julian Khater, the individual who assaulted U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, a New Jersey native, and pled guilty to assaulting officers with a dangerous weapon. My heart is with the Sicknick family and the Capitol Police officers who put their lives on the line every day. Here in New Jersey, we’re going to stand up for our Constitution, defend our rights and freedoms, and respect the law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe.”
