STATEMENT FROM DISTRICT 40 DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES ON LAS VEGAS SHOOTING
Ridgewood, 2 October 2017 – Yesterday evening, more than 55 people were killed and another 520 were injured at a music festival in Las Vegas. This event is the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, with law enforcement officials still working to understand the suspect’s motive. At this time, the FBI has determined no connection with any international terrorist organization.
“Our hearts go out to the victims, families, and friends affected by this tragedy,” said Paul Vagianos. “This incident of domestic terrorism is cause for serious consideration of our gun laws.”
The shooter was located 32 floors above the festival grounds in a nearby hotel, firing more than 10 rifles into a crowd of over 22,000 concert-goers.
“How many more events like this have to happen,” questioned Christine Ordway. “My deepest sympathies go out to the families of lost loved ones. We must come together and enact common sense reform.”
“The Second Amendment does not provide the right to kill. We must enact a series of reasonable regulations that curb gun violence,” stated Thomas Duch. |
